frontend login and edit

I am looking for a facility where certain front end users have access to view and edit the contents of a few pages with those permissions.
Also to upload/replace a word document which is linked to within that page.
They should not be allowed to do edit,add or delete anything else in the admin area, no other links in the admin area should be available to them.
Can this be done by frontendusers and tinymce  and/or {edit}
anyone managed to do this? any guidance really appreciated.thanks

No it can't be done that way, the {edit} tag only works if you are logged into the back-end...

Give them back-end access with restricted permissions...

That depends on how you set up your site.  Dr. CSS is correct, as long as you're talking about actual pages.  However, if the content of those pages is provided by a module like CompanyDirectory, you could do what you're talking about.

I've never heard of it being considered for 2.0...

Hi all
Thank you for the feedback..saves me going all around the houses.
One more question. Is it possible to configure a user to edit one or two pages only - and one or two uploaded documents only ?
No access to any other folders of images, docs etc.
cheers

This is inaccurate... inline editing or frontend editing of regular pages is possible.  I even have posted proof in here for that in the gen area with screen casts.. I have not gotten there yet to finish the mod that does it, due to making ends meet, but yes not only is it possible I have a working comp. :D  Just thought I'd chime in there.. hehe  Cheers -Jeremy

In my oppinion... I think frontend editing brings in alot more complexities than it solves, and should be a third party addon so I am happy that JreremyBass is doing this.
