A new photo album manager : Gallery

Last year I started with this Gallery project. I wanted a simple to use photo album, fully integrated to CMSms. Uploading images to a separate directory should be enough information for the system to build a gallery from.

Since this is my first module for CMSms, even the first time I released something to others, I didn't do much to go public.

But now that I don't get many (difficult) questions, while dowloadrates being pretty high, I suspect it is pretty stable and easy enough to use.
The enthousiastic feedback of users made me release a new version 1.2 of the Gallery module today. You can install through ModuleManager or download from the Forge http://dev.cmsmadesimple.org/projects/gallery

Gallery features:
  • Create galleries and subgalleries by uploading images to a corresponding directory. Uploading can be done with ImageManager, FileManager (multiple images in a zip-file) or FTP.
  • Choose your own thumbnailsizes with posibilities to scale or crop (which is in fact a scale and cut of the unwanted edges). There is also a zoom option which will slightly zoom-in on the image.
  • Thumbnails are created on the fly
  • Assign images as the cover image of that gallery
  • Give a title and a description to galleries
  • Give a title and a description to each image
  • Choose a moduletemplate like Lightbox, Slimbox, Thickbox, Fancybox
  • Specify for each template in which order the images have to be sorted by choosing one or more fields to sort on, ascending/descending
  • Order the images by hand with the drag & drop system in the gallery editor
  • Prevent particular images or galleries from display by setting as inactive
  • Edit, copy, import and export moduletemplates, or create your own. There is a wide variety of smarty variables available to make every design possible
  • Display random images, latest images, random images from a given directory with or without its subdirectories, random images from the latest gallery
  • And some other features I probably forgot to mention...
I enjoyed developing this module. It also made me confident of having chosen the right cms. So a big Thank You to all people who have contributed to CMSms. This module is my way of giving something back.

I hope you enjoy using it.

Thanks Jos, for a brilliant module. I use it exclusively now whenever I have a site that needs a gallery.

Well done!

I'm sure many will agree that Jos is an example of a developer who goes the extra mile...well above and beyond the call of duty.

It's great to feel confident that the developer will be there to help answer questions you may have. Whilst I accept that that's not possible for many developers due to their particular situation, it's this type of dedication which helps to make CMSMS such a great product and will help ensure its longevity within an ever crowded market place.

Thanks Jos.

Richard

Thank you all for the kind words  :)

Today I released version 1.2.1. It seemed that during the initial install of the module, only the fancybox template was installed, and left the others uninstalled.

So if version 1.2 was your first install, you miss some moduletemplates. Therefore I released the moduletemplates as separate packages. You can download them and install via the importbutton in the Gallery admin template tab.

The new version 1.2.1 also contains an update of the fancybox system (1.3.0 try the scrollwheel!) and jQuery (1.4.2)

Great module but I think I have found a bug in gallery version 1.2 (with CMS Made Simple 1.6.6). Also tried with 1.2.1

When in a template a print tag is called on the same page as a gallery tag I get a page without layout and the following error. When I remove the {print} tag the problems is fixed
Catchable fatal error: Object of class stdClass could not be converted to string
in
/home/xxxxxxx/tmp/templates_c/Printing^%%CC^CC3^CC3377B7%%module_db_tpl%3APrinting%3Blinktemplate.php
on line 22
Has anyone else also had this problem? Is there a fix known?

Yes I tried that indeed because the error came out of the tmp directory.
