It's up to you mate, you can put whatever different meta tags you like into every single page, muck about with your titles, add google analantics, whatever your heart desires. In my experience of using cmsmadesimple the limitations lie mostly with the user and not with the system. SEO is up to you.

The way I do it is to create new content blocks in the template.

replace the meta insert in the template for the following:

{content block='SEO Title' oneline=true wysiwyg='false'}



This will give you separate editable sections on each page for the above. I don't know why this isn't standard functionailty!

There's also a good xml sitemap module which works well.

Setup mod_rewrite so your page URL's are descriptive.

and of course the usual... keywords in your domain name and get yourself a fast web host. Then obtain as many quality back links as you can!

Maybe because the actual handling is very good - I think more than 90% of the users would only get in trouble with your solution.

well I've completed more than 30 web sites using cmsms and all setup as mentioned and have never experienced any problems with users. And some of those users have been very very computer phobic! Its all about user education too.

What would the user rather have... A nice separate box for them to enter the seo details, or a combined box on the options page where they have to precisely enter the tags into the right places and they mess it up if they get it wrong?

I know what's been a success for me (and I know its all subjective), and I know the majority of my cmsms sites all have great search results, and the early ones without my seo mods don't.

Having 2 input fields for meta tags is alot easier for the end user. I like to have checks to see if any content exists though rather than assuming that they will enter data for every page.

Although i'm not sure why you would create another field for title, isn't the title field that is already there usable?

What kind of error? The kind of error when you don't enter any content into the main block or...?

I ask because i have used extra input fields for meta data and haven't been shown an error when both are left blank. I only get an error if i don't enter anything into the main content block.

yes, keep the tags in lowercase or you will get validation errors and also if the content of the tag is empty. So it should be ...

As said before, much of this is a about client education so they know not to leave any emty and tho know what to put in them and the basics of optimisation.
