2 installs in one server - does it work?

Before I try and mess something up, is this something that can usually be done?  I have a working install in the root directory, and I got a hunkering to set up my own personal site on there, which I set up a subdomain for, but is actually technically just another folder on the same server.  It's in public_html/myfolder  (not the actual foldername).    Would it work to have an install there as well as an install in just public_html/ ?  I'd be able to give it its own database, also.

And is there anything special I need to know about installing in a folder as opposed to the root dir?

works fine, as long as you use different databases.  I'm currently running three different installations on my box.

Though, just for information sake, remember that you can also use the same database, and select a different table prefix when installing.

i have 4 installs on mine in diff. folders, besides 15 folders with diff. sites, my host allows 25 databases.
at the end of the .com  it's /site name/ to get to each site.
