[solved] Please Help: Change Config for CMS Install w/ Subdirectories

I have a site built and fully functional, but I need to know how to make changes in the Core to ensure smooth operation.

I have a site Image that is being hosted on my shared host (along with a few other sites).  I have gullytvglobal.com forwarded and masked to my host/domain stellarbeats.com.

Here are the issues at hand:
  • When you click on the menu, it does not show the page you are on in the address bar.
  • My host domain stellarbeats.comshows on google "Type Gully TV Global in Google" instead of Gullytvglobal.com
Is there a way that I can correct this issue in the CMS, or the CMS set up files so that this will not be an issue?

1) Not only does url masking has nothing to do with CMSMS, but you will need to put in effort to search this forum first (and you will hear exactly that)

2) Follow good capitalization principles for a URL composed of several words. If you want to have any chance of people remembering the name of your website, GullyTVGlobal is a lot better.

3) You did not even tell us if CMSMS runs on any of the two sites, or if you want to transfer those sites to CMSMS.

Your right.  I truly apologize.  I apologize as well for not stating the question better as I know that time is a precious commodity for those who are developing and answering posts.  I'll do further research to see what I find as well.  And I hope this is the correct forum for the restated question that I have below.

To answer your other statement, and to give clarity to the issue, CMSMS is currently installed and running at www.stellarbeats.com/gullytv.  This is the path to the folder where www.gullytvglobal.com is currently forwarded to.  This works fine.

I think what I was trying to ask was:

I originally installed CMSMS before we settled on a domain name for the client.  I assumed that forwarding the domain would handle any outstanding issues.  For the most part, that has worked favorably.  But what I've noticed is that I'm unable to see page aliases when you click from page to page.

So, I thought the solution might be to change the set up of CMSMS by changing the root_url in the config file from: www.stellarbeats.com/gullytv to www.gullytvglobal.com/gullytv.

My question is, will this make a difference or not?   Or will I create a larger problem?

Thank you.

Respectfully, are there any who might have the time to shed some light on this topic?  If so, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I've referenced http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/topic,36671.0.html.  Here I see how to change the config.php.  But my situation is slightly different.

I am not doing anything with DNS.  I just want the page aliases to show properly.  This is highly relevant for google as well.
www.gullytvglobal.com is forwarded and masked to www.stellarbeats.com/gullytv

Can I make the change in the config.php from www.stellarbeats.com/gullytv to www.gullytvglobal.com without causing an issue?

OK.  I tested this on a different site that is hosted under www.stellarbeats.com/baybreeze.  The domain www.thebaybreezelounge.com is forwarded and masked to that location.

I went into the config.php and changed

Code: Select all

$config['root_url'] = 'http://www.stellarbeats.com/baybreeze';
to

Code: Select all

$config['root_url'] = 'http://www.thebaybreezelounge.com';
.  I also tried

Code: Select all

$config['root_url'] = 'http://www.thebaybreezelounge.com/baybreeze';
(which was redundant.  Neither worked.  The results?

When I made the change, none of the css or graphics showed on screen.  Just text and a flash video.

Is this the only place where I should be changing this file?  If anyone could offer assistance, it would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Here is the config file that I was working with to test on the other site:

Please let me know if I'm missing any information that could aid in resolving this post.

I've been researching, and I've found similar post, but none seem to match this example exactly.

Any assistance would, of course, be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Read the above quickly... As far as I can understand ;) and what I see is:

The address http://www.gullytvglobal.com/ is showing an iFrame with this site http://www.stellarbeats.com/gullytv/ in it.

Code: Select all

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"
   "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/strict.dtd">
<__html>
<head>
  <title>Gully TV Global </title>
  </head>
<frameset rows="100%,*" border="0">
  <frame src="http://www.stellarbeats.com/gullytv/" frameborder="0" />
  <frame frameborder="0" noresize />
</frameset>
<!-- pageok -->
<!-- 05 -->
<!-- -->
</__html>
Because you are in an iFrame the address in the browser won't change!! The browser is still showing the same page!

Change in the config.php the root_url of the cmsms site to http://www.gullytvglobal.com

Differt the address http://www.gullytvglobal.com to the server folder in question and see what happens next...
And of course remove the index.html with the iFrame!!

Also, you asked what settings affect the path. There are many, actually:

$config['root_url'] = 'http://www.stellarbeats.com/baybreeze';
$config['root_path'] = '/home/content/d/c/l/dcleckley/html/baybreeze';
$config['previews_path'] = '/home/content/d/c/l/dcleckley/html/baybreeze/tmp/cache';
$config['uploads_path'] = '/home/content/d/c/l/dcleckley/html/baybreeze/uploads';
$config['image_uploads_path'] = '/home/content/d/c/l/dcleckley/html/baybreeze/uploads/images';

Getting the root path wrong will cause unending problems. In this case, I think it will only refer to the PHYSICAL LOCATION OF THE SERVER FILES ON THE SERVER and not some masked/forwarded location. For example, IF THERE IS NO BAYBREEZE FOLDER on the server, then the root path is specified incorrectly. It must point to actual physical location of files.

And I sincerely hope that the lack of response to this topic is due to people being busy spending the Valentine's "strategically". As should be everyone reading this topic today.

Rolf,

Thank you very much for your time in responding to this post.  I'm not a newbie to the CMSMS forum, so I really appreciate the time that others take to respond to your posts.  Thank you.

I viewed the source code there after you mentioned it.  But I have no iframe and no index.html in the CMS folder.  It may be something that GoDaddy does when you forward and mask your domain.

I just have www.gullytvglobal.com forwarded and masked to www.stellarbeats.com/gullytv.  Thats it.

Here is a question for you.

If you developed the site prior to picking the domain name, and now you know the permanent domain name, why not move the site to the actual domain that is the preferred one?

I have moved a lot of CMSMS sites and can give you some pointers on how to do that with minimal downtime if you are interested in that as a possible solution.

Hello replytomk3,

Thank you very much for your time in replying to this post, on top of the time that you spent earlier in the post.  Your time is highly valued.

Yes, I do have a 'baybreeze' folder on the server under www.stellarbeats.com

Essentially, I have www.thebaybreezelounge.com forwarded and masked to www.stellarbeats.com/baybreeze.  This is the same setup as the gully site (above).

Thanks!

Kendo451,

Thank you for your interest and time in replying to my post.  Your solution sounds good.  Really, I am just looking for the best possible solution with minimal downtime.  But, since they are client sites, I don't have much room for error.

I would be more than willing to understand the process and feed on your experience in moving the site!

Thank you.
