Hi folks,

I have a bit of a dilemma and would appreciate your perspective on this.  I'm a software engineer that dabbles with website technology and design. I have created a few intranets using wiki software and recently a church website using CMSMS. Now one of our parishioners suggested a site update. It is pretty basic now and uses a modified default CMSMS theme. We have reviewed enhancements to the theme, menu layout and better front page presentation.

This person does not have any software or web design experience. I did go over the CMSMS features and capabilities but she struggled with it and found wix.com instead.

We all know that CMSMS helps a designer to setup a website in a feature-rich and flexible way. But how would one convince a novice against switching the site design over to WIX?

Thank you for all antidotes. Drew

First off flash sites are totally non accessible to anyone one with any screen reader or similar disability, and google or other search engines can't see what's on the page to index it, and in my not so humble opinion flash sites are all pretty and everything but they SUCK and I'm not sure there is anything they can do that jQuery can't do or at least get close to it...

And last but not least you need Flash program to update it, which is why the site below went back to CMS Made Simple...

Case in point...

This...

Used to be this...

You will need to be patient and explain to her a couple of things:

1) Those templates are cool, but other people are using the same templates. Also, she is stuck to the template that she chose. Sure, it looks cute, but try to expand it in the future and you will run into problems.

2) A CMSMS site will be professional, will absorb features that she will later crave, and will scale for the future.

Basically, explain the difference between a disposable brochure website and a content website that you put effort in and get money from.

Thank you for the kind reply.

I feel that a mentoring approach would serve us both well. She has the enthusiasm for achieving our goals so a little big of exposure to customizing and programming CMSMS features should be good learning experience. Explaining the pros/cons of wix and standard website systems is another matter.

Oh, a demo of CMSMS. Totally forgot to mention it. Just awe her with dynamic stuff.
