Hello,

Is someone responsable for maintaining the forum?

I had a look at the number of topics with 0 replys before 1-1-2009.

43 pages! Those topics have hardly any, not to say no, function in the forum. The chance of those old topics being aswered is ..%?

Butt still these topics appear in the list when you do a search. Polution.

Can these old, not answered topics be removed from the forum or is that a stupid idea?

Sometimes cleaning can be done... But not all topics-without-replies, are unanswered questions... Sometimes they can be Tips&Tricks, or other stuff... But in general, when no rules are broken, old posts are not deleted. Unanswered or not...

This is also the reason why we ask for [solved] in the subject-line of solved questions... It makes the live of searching people easier, as well of those that try to answer unanswerd/unsolved questions...

Maar toch ... when speaking of a topic dated in 2004 with 0 reply you can surely say that that one never ever will be answered. When it is a tips&trics topic it probebly relates to an old version of the cms or module.  With my limited knowlegde I also try to answer unanswered topics but not those dating from 2004, 2005, ....

And when looking at the huge amount of these 0 reply topics spreaded throughout the forum ........

Just a thought.

If this task was given to developers, the time cost will not be worth the result. On the other hand, if this was people-sourced somehow then results can be obtained for zero cost to developers.

If I'm right CMSms SMF has no function to show unanswered postings  ...

1.) I too would like to see how this search was made.

2.) Just keeping the current topics in the right forum, moderated, keeping them on topic, catching spam and attempting to answer questions is a full time job. None of us are paid to do this. With a large team of moderators it is still hard to keep up (mainly because people don't read the rules or don't think they apply to them). This is just current and active posts, there is no way we could throw 3 years worth of posts into the mix.

Edit: This topic is a prime example of what I just mentioned... in the wrong forum. I would rather spend time responding to help questions or testing the SVN version of CMSMS instead of moving topics around because people don't read the description.

I click the header of the Column Reply and then go trough all the pages until the 0 reply's changes into 1 reply.

When clicking the header Reply the the column Last Post is also sorted. That's how I did it.

No criticism, just curious!!

Q: Why not get rid of stuff in the forum that isn't useful?
A: Lack of time and resources it would take to search through the forum and filter out the old posts that are still valuable from the ones that are not. We can't run a blanket script that will wipe all old posts out because there are hundreds of posts that are still valuable that haven't been active for awhile. We also can't assume that all posts that are X amount of days old with no replies aren't good as well. There are lots of tips and even questions (with "edits" giving the answer) out there that do not have replies that we do not want to delete.

A: It really doesn't affect the moderators any. Old posts continually get pushed to the end where they can be forgotten about.

A: Quite possibly. However I am able to search the forum for answers and I am able to easily sift through the posts that do not have answers or do not seem relevant. Yes, it would be nice if the answer came up to the top every time... but we do not have the man power to handle it. Also, think of this... Google can't even get it right every time and they have a huge team and their job is to "get it right".

A: Absolutely it is. Why? Because we cannot support old software... again, manpower. It is clearly stated (In more than one spot, I believe) that we cannot and do not support old versions of the software. Interestingly enough, upgrades solve the issue more often than it doesn't.

Q: Finally; did I started this topic in the wrong forum or is this the wrong one. If so, where should I have put it.
A: I honestly do not remember exactly where it was posted (It was over a week ago). I do know it was in the "Official Boards" section where it clearly states that the topics of discussion are meant for the Core only. I moved it to the Lounge because this isn't a Core issue and it didn't fit any of the other boards that were available.



Note: If people would bother to take the time to read the board descriptions, sticky posts, wiki and default content that is installed with CMSMS 85% of the questions on this forum would not need to be asked or would be placed in the right area. (Do I hear an echo here?) Instead of questioning the moderation of the forum... maybe we should be questioning those that don't take the extra few minutes to help themselves. Then we wouldn't have so many threads (dead or active) to sift through when searching.

Thx for your answer - display unanswered topics is one thing, manage it fast the other.

Currently there's no plugin for fast managing installed - will see, what we can do ...
