Well Intergrated Gallery??/Looking for one

Hey guys and girls,
I'm creating a site for a friend who runs an events company. He wants to be able to add images to his website after each event.
This friend is not very computer literate and requires a gallery that is very easy to add images to, however each event must have a different category.
So what I need is a gallery that is simple to add pictures to through the admin panel, and has the ability to make different categories for different events.
Now lets add some more to the confusion-> Being a web designer I thought it would be a good idea to put the latest 10 photos from the gallery on the main page, so this gallery needs to have some sort of function to display the latest 10 photos in thumnail view in my own format that i choose.
I checked out the development section and to my dissapointment there was quite a lack of options, I tried the singapore gallery module, and for updating the modules from the admin panel this seemed chaotic, especially with my friend having to enter two usernames and passwords. Although the categories were great. However there was no support for showing the latest 10 thumbs on the main page.
Next i had a look at PiPitures, which looks promising with the top 10 thumbnails side of thing, however the category support is lacking and my user would get lost trying to add new categories.
So this what i need
A Simple gallery that is well intergrated with CMS Made Simple.
I want to be able to put it on a page, say pictures, where i can just call a
{cms_module module='gallery'} to put it on to display a list of categories going down the page, when clicking on them shows the pictures for that event in thumnail view, and clicking on the thumbnail shows a picture of that thumnail large.
I also want to be able to put on another page, say the page template a call of say
{cms_module module module='gallery' mode='latest10'}
or something to that regard, where i can hand pick the latest 10 pictures from them in thumbnail format and have them on the front page.
Now - can anyone help me out?
