Can't have News module 2.0.3 working with CMSMS 0.11.2 - getdb error

I extracted News from latest 0.12.1 version, and News.module.php says MinimumCMSVersion is 0.11.2... which is mine.
So I bravely uploaded it, but when I tried to upgrade I got a "Fatal error: Call to undefined function: getdb() on line 315 in News.module.php". It seems the getdb code changed in lib/classes...
So... Have I a chance to get it working with these versions, or should I upgrade the whole system (CMSMS 0.12.1 & News 2.0.3) - which is going to be longer, as I changed things here and there...
