This is a strange one. I had a website working fine using cms made simple.

The owner of the site made some changes last night (added a picture and some text)

This morning the site is '404 not found'

I have contacted my web host - below is there reply=

Your domain badasscomedy.com is working now, it was not working due to .htaccess file. Regarding badasscomedy.com/cms try reinstalling the cms system, there seems to be problem suring installation. Let us know if you have any further questions.

Is there anything the owner of the site could have done last night to stop cmsmadesimple from working?

or is this a web host based problem?

this is the latest reply from my webhost:

We are not sure what the problem is in cms, but I would like to inform you that there were no updates etc... done on the server. It seems to have some coding problem, kindly check the documentation for CMS.

I have used cms made simple for five sites, no problems.

I have talked to some web design friends and their only answer to why a site would just disappear is that it had been hacked.

Does anyone know what the .htaccess file does?

.htaccess file can be used to give directions to apache on howto process pages, maybe password protect them and so on.

most likely someone has put .htaccess file with mod rewrite turned on and not turning it on from config.php
