0.12.1 installation issues

I'm having 2 problems installing CMSMS 0.12.1
1st of all, here is the configuration:
PHP 5.0.5
MySQL 4.1.9
Hosted at Westhost
1. Can't connect to the database
During the insatallation (within the install wizard) I select MySQL 4.1+ as the database type. Then I get the error message "can't connect to the database...". The installation runs if a select a previous MySQL version. The strange thing is that there is no issue if I select MySQL 4.1+ as database type when installing CMSMS 0.11.2
2. FCKEditor doesn't work
If I run the install by selecting an earlier MySQL version, the FCKEditor doesn't get loaded when I want to edit a page (just a few icons will be displayed where the toolbar should be). Then Firefox asks if I wanted to download some PHP file (sorry I don't remember the name, I think it's "blank.php".
Any ideas? I was checking posts in the forum but didn't find the solution...
