Hi guys,
I'd like to up-a-date my main site tonight
QUESTION:
Do I use "base" or "full" for a major update -
the last time - I did Spring Garden update to 1.5.4 - and it went like a dream but I've forgotten if I used base or full -
getting old is really great - if I could only remember why.
my best regards - spike

Yes thanks AJ -
I've done some reading and been unable to find the appropriate text.
A little help instead of bloody stupid supercilious remarks would be appreciated.
I do hope you retain your health and an efficient memory system with increasing years.
I wouldn't ask if I couldn't find the necessary data - I've tried the search facility and couldn't find the answer.
If you don't want to help then please don't waste my time with worthless remarks.
my very best regards - have a nice evening - spike

As far as I understand it Spike the difference between 'Base' and 'Full' are the language packs distributed with the install - base only includes English.
So if your sites are only in English then i'd just use the base and save having to download and upload unecessary language files.

Hi Spike,
The information is buried within the 'Step by Step install for beginners' article in the documentation (not easy to find):
http://www.icms.info/create-website/upload-website
It should really be at the top of the downloads page, or in the Getting Started section of the handbook. Of course, the handbook is a public document in the wiki, so we can all take responsibility for making that better.
