File permission / ownership

We're using CMSMS 1.6.6

Basically I believe my client has installed the Gallery module via the Module Manager - now it says in File Manager that the owner is apache (the server), and means I can't edit the CSS / Coding in the template files of Gallery.

What's the best way round this? Am I going to have to delete the module and install via FTP so the sever doesn't own the files? Or is there a way to change the ownership via the backend?

Any help much appreciated :)

That's one way to do it. Or you can use this tool: http://wacker-welt.de/webadmin/ which will allow you to edit permissions to any file once you've uploaded. As a safety precaution, you should delete the file from the server once you're done.

I know this is an old thread - but just for reference you may be able to change the file permissions via File Manager - even for files in the Modules directory.

In Content->File Manager select the 'Settings' tab and check the 'Enable advanced mode?' check box.

Then from the 'File View' tab you should be able to navigate up out of the Uploads file and into Modules. Then you can change the permissions on the Gallery folder to 777 or whatever you need.

Obviously this all depends on the permissions you have as admin and also may depend on your sever configuration but it's an easy option to try first rather than uninstalling etc.
