Can CMSMS do this Job or am I doomed to using Joomla?

- Hello:
I just finished reading this very passionate post on the pros and cons of cmsms vs joomla http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.php/topic,30266.0.html.
I am bidding on a project and wanted to know if you might have some insight on whether cmsms can handle the job. I have a lot of experience with cmsms and I'm very comfortable with it.
The project would be a teen online magazine like honeymag or seventeen targeting girls ages between 12-18. It would require
- blogging
- news articles
- membership with fees
- member only sections with profiles
- maybe tweet feeds
- chat
- banner advertising - as a revenue source
- Event Calendar
- event registration
- Polls
- RSS fee
- Multi user access restricting them to their section only
I realize a lot modules and plugin can already do much of the above list. The site would have to be completely dynamic as the client will rely heavily on writers and visitors for content. I’m not clear right now if any client uploads will be needed.
Also, I have never used the commerce modules for cmsms and since they are not prepackaged it is not always clear which module works with each other.
Do you think this is something CMSMS can handle or am I best to use Joomla? I would hate to start having to learn joomla
I just spent a day downloading their jump box and poking around the admin and the documentation. HOLY COW!
Can someone provide some feedback? Thank you for you input. It is always appreciated.

The chat will need to be written or intergate an 3rd party app.
The member and event registration might take some setup work as most e-comm items do.

ajprog, thanks for the input.
I've created complete sites using zen cart and osCommerce, but i've not had the opportunity to tinker with the new mods for cmsms.
I've implemented basic member login using customContent and FEU, but nothing like this where the user would be directed to the login before being sent on to the detail article they want to access.
what would be involved to customize these mods to work seamlessly? is there someone on the development side or a programming whiz that's willing to handle this aspect for me? If so, can you IM me with time estimate, rate, and method of payment.
I realize this question should now fall under the commercial help section, but this is where i started. I'm leaning toward using cmsms and I think with a little planning, this is doable.
thank you.

I'll point out the modules that might work best for you
* blogging - CGBlog
* news articles - Default News module
* membership with fees - Front End Users --- I don't know of a working module of membership fees, but can be written I know some people have been able to integrate it.
* member only sections with profiles - SimplePortal/Front End Users/Custom Content/CGUserDirectory
* maybe tweet feeds - I think I saw some stuff on the forum about this in the Tips and Tricks board
* chat - Might need to find a Chat app on the web and set it up on a page, won't be integrated with FEU though
* banner advertising - as a revenue source - None that does billing... but you can check out the Banners module and maybe setup a different type of pay scheme with your advertisers
* Event Calendar - CGCalender
* event registration - I'll have to think... but nothing that I know of
* Polls - There are a few polls modules. Haven't used any but know there is at least one that works.
* RSS fee - CGFeedMaker
* Multi user access restricting them to their section only - Front End Users / Simple Portal / CustomContent
I also recommend the Products e-Commerce suite:

ryman00:
thank you so much for responding and breaking it down like this. That helps a lot. Testing each mod or going through each of the forum posts is not time efficient.
Just so you know, chat can be placed on a page with restricted access once FEU and CustomContent is installed.
Know anyone willing to share the membership with fees for a price? reasonable of course
For Multi user access restricting them to their section only - Front End Users / Simple Portal / CustomConten can this work for the client's writers and article submission? I've never used Simple Portal
if you're interested in helping with this project, once I win it, please IM me. I'll try to remember to IM all interested parties when I win the project.

The chat with FEU/CC may work, but would require some coding of the chat to get the FEU Username to carry over.
SimplePortal is more for allowing users to manage their own "homepage" and is useful in company intranet situations where you want your users to have the ability to manage the layout and look of their page with GCB's once they are logged in.
The News module does have a Front End Users submission action so you may be able to take it that route. I am not sure if CGBlog has the FEU action as well or not.
As far as the User/Payment situation. There are a few modules, but I have not tested and I know some of them have been reported as non-functioning. You may consider hiring Ted (shiftrefresh.us) to do this. I know he has done some work like this in the past.
