Possible to add 2 definable content areas on a page?

Hi,

Been using CMSMS for a few months now with pleasure, this is the first time I've got to a point where I'm not sure of the best way to proceed.

I have a page layout that requires 2 changeable content areas- the first (main) one is the content for that page (an overview of a product), for which I'm using the usual page/ content editing. This is the product detail page.

What I'm not sure about is the best way to add a second area in the margin of the page, this is common to the product range rather than a specific product. My first thought was to use a Global Content Block for each product range, then I realised that if I add this into the template, it will be there across the whole site, which isn't what's needed.

The only way I can think of doing this is to have an identical template for each product range, the only difference being the tag for the overview block for that category. What's not so good about that tho, is that there's suddenly quite a few templates to keep up to date when something needs to be changed on the main layout.

Does anyone have any suggestions for the neatest way to achieve what I need. I have the suspicion that I'm missing something obvious here.

I.E. Is there a way to add a variable to a Global Content Block that can check to see which product range the page is a child of and pull in content specific for that?

(I'm using CMSMS 0.12 "Fiji")

Many TIA

look at the default template "Bulletmenu Vert 2 col" for an example of having two content areas on one page.

when a template refers to multiple content areas, and you go edit a page that has that template assigned to it, you'll have editor boxes for each content area.

and, if you've got many pages that will use the same content for one of the content areas, but not the other(s), you could create html blobs (global content blocks) for the re-used content and refer to them in the one of the content areas.

Excellent- that sounds just the ticket :) Thanks very much.

Now if only I had the tempate you refer to installed on this site so I can see what you mean. Oh well- I have been promising my Dad that I'll set up CMSMS for his cycling club, so what better excuse to get that installed for him so I can see the template you're referrring to.

Cheers
