I am new to CMS Made Simple, so my question may be very simple - I hope so

Is there a way to add new content to the site without having to log into the control panel?

No, because you have to identify/authentificate the user before they can edit content. But you can use the {edit} tag (see help for details). That wil put a edit this page link on the page that will lead directly to the page editor if they have the right cookies, or will first ask them for a id/pass and then redirect them to the page editor.
