Hopefully this will be the last release in the 1.6 series, and we can move forward with development on CMSMS 1.7, which will be a php5 only release.

I hope that can be both php5 and php4

because some existing CMSMS webmasters are using php4

if CMSMS 1.7 will be a php5 only, that may be a serious problem for upgrade

moreover, like my case.... I am using VDS plan hosting with php4

may be I need to pay for another webhosting which support php5

CMSMS has supported php4 and php5 for a long time now.
Since PHP is now in PHP 5.3 and most decent web hosts provide php5 now
we're giving you this advanced notice that 1.7 will only support php5 so that you have reasonable amounts of time to switch hosting if necessary.

Hosts that support PHP 4 and not 5 need to get with the times, FACT. How do people expect scripts to progress without supporty the latest scripting languages.

We announced over 2 years ago that we would be doing this, but have been holding on as long as possible.

PHP 5.2 has been out for almost 3 years, php 5 -- 5 years(?!?).  phpmyadmin has been PHP 5.2+ for at least a year, as well as other popular projects.  It's time for hosting companies to wake up.

Sorry, but we can't back down on this one.  We need to move forward.

php4 is unsupported (security fix only) from 31/12/2007 and "completly" unsupported from php team from 8/8/2008
A hosting that support php4 only after 1 year is not serious....
