[Solved] How to put adsense banner in the header

Hi!

I would like to put a google adsense banner in the blank space to the right of my logo on my website

I am using the Layout: Left sidebar + 1 column style sheet and have tried putting the adsense code in various different places in the section to do with the head but to be honest I'm no expert when it comes to style sheets so not sure really what I need to do to get an adsense banner to appear next to my logo.

If you want help you need to me more descriptive. For right now all I can say is put it in the once it is there if it doesn't display right we can help, but not when you don't have the {adsense} on the page.

Thank you for you reply.   :)

Sorry you feel that my question wasnt very descriptive. :(

I was always told a picture speaks a thousand words so I put a link to my website there instead and assumed that after looking at my site people would be able to clearly see the blank space next to my logo as there is nothing there but blankness - clearly this is not obvious so I appologise for my lack of descriptiveness.

I would have replied earlier but unfortunately your reply wasn't very descriptive as I can not find any mention of in the style sheet that I described in my post.  ???

After spending hours searching around the back end I finally came across it in the Template section (and not the Style Sheet I described) so I have now added the adsense code here and it's now appearing on the site to the left of and directly under my logo and on top of anything in it's way.

I now need to work out how to get it to display to the right of my logo so www.google.co.uk here I come!

:)

To get it on the right, you could call another div inside the header-div, and float it right....

Hi RonnyK, thank you for your reply.

I've now managed to get the asdsense to the right, but it's now covering the search box!

I know very little about html & style sheets so when looking for a CMS system I chose CMS Made Simple as the name suggests it's simple to use, but to be honest I'm now seeing that it's not as simple as it's name suggests!

I'm aftraid I haven't a clue how to "call another div inside the header-div, and float it right" so not sure what to do now?

Ketrinweb,

the words made-simple are pointing to the application, not to HTML and CSS ;)

Could you pastebin your template, and main stylesheet, I can then check what needs to be changed...

Thanks again for your replys.  :)

So I see!!

To be honest, I have found CMSMS very easy to add web pages and move them around the place - the copy feature has been invaluable!

I've never done anything with style sheets before and although (as you correctly point out) style sheets and html is not exactly simple if you know nothing about it, editing them is easy with CMS Made Simple as you can easily make a copy of the one you are editing using the system so if you screw things up you can easily sort it out!

Back on topic...

Here is my template (Left simple navigation + 1 column):

Sorry, I thought you know the difference between templates and stylesheets.

Replace this:

Code: Select all

   <div id="header">
           <h1>{cms_selflink dir="start" text="$sitename"}</h1>
   <hr class="accessibility" />

<div style="text-align: right;">
With this:

Code: Select all

<div id="header">
           <div id="header-icon"><h1>{cms_selflink dir="start" text="$sitename"}</h1></div>
   <hr class="accessibility"/>

<div id=adsense>
Add this to your stylesheet:

Code: Select all

div#header-icon{
display: inline;
float: left;
width: 40%;;
}
div#adsense {
text-align: right;
width: 40%;
margin-left: 52%;
}

Thanks for the replies!

I was round a friends house last night who has just started studying this sort of thing and with his help (and the replies in this thread) I now have the adsense in the right place on my site.

:)
