Can CMSMS be successfully used as ecomm solution

I need to create an ecommerce shop for a client.  I have used CubeCart before, but didn’t really like it.
Most of my sites are brochure sites, and all are made with CMSMS.
Is CMSMS really a viable platform to build a shop?
Feature I will need:
Customer log-in (plus returning customer log-in)
Categories for products (Approximately 15)
Shipping price based on weight
Paypal checkout

I love the way cmsms works but I need to be sure that there is a solution that can do what I need.  It needs to be robust too.  I don’t want my client calling me every day with something that he has broken!! ;)

Should I be realistically looking at dedicated software?!?!?!?

there are two groups of modules that are for e-commerce (don't mix them or you will have problems)

here is a quick guide for the one by calguy1000 http://calguy1000.com/Blogs/8/60/cmsms- ... ow-to.html

Thanks for that ajprog.

That does sound promising.

Does anyone know of any decent ecomm shops that have been made using these modules (products, cart, orders etc.)?  I still have concerns about how 'slick' a shop can be using CMSMS.

I've been developing a site with calguy's modules.  I'll have to share it here in a few weeks or so.

Anyone else know of a site that successfully implements cmsms as an ecommerce site?

Thanks for the links ajprog.

Unfortunately they only go to prove to me that you can't make a slick online shop in cmsms.

The only shop that I have found that is any good is www.ulman.info.  Even this store is clunky in terms of registering /logging in etc.

I have a feeling that I am going to have to use oscommerce instead.  :(

Don't be discouraged by other peoples lack of design.
