Additional Sidebars

Wordpress and Joomla provide means via the administration backend to add new content to whatever areas the template provides. If a user wants multiple sections of sidebar content (widgets in Wordpress, module positions in Joomla), they only need to add a new widget/module and specify where it goes.

From what I've understood so far, in CMS Made Simple, all sidebar areas are individually defined in the template and to add new content areas one must add a new section of HTML to the template. Is there a means of making CMSMS work more like Wordpress and Joomla? Or am I just not understanding the templating system well?

Ok, I take it I've understood the CMS templating pretty well at this point. So then, to add more sidebar sections, some copy/pasting is in order in the template.

For those interested, I've posted a tutorial on my web site on how to add new sidebar sections to the templates I'm releasing for CMS Made Simple. I've only released one template thus far but I've been planning on releasing more and I actually have a few ported already. It's a rather simple process of porting now that I understand it pretty well. I just wanted to wait for a spell to see if anyone reported any bugs or issues with the initial release.

As a final note, I have to say it's extremely impressive that CMS Made Simple exports templates with all the accompanying graphics embedded in the xml file. I wouldn't have bothered continuing to port my themes if the process required detailed installation instructions but it turned out to be far simpler for users to install my themes for CMS Made Simple than for any of the other CMS's I've made the themes available for, save perhaps Joomla since it has an integrated installer that can install from a URL.
