I recently upgraded an installation of CMSMS for a client; and it seems like these core.xxx files are being created automatically and using up 35. MD of space a piece; there are currently about 35 of these files is this normal?

i keep having to increase their server space but we aren't making any changes to the site or adding any pages.
any help is appreciated.

thanks

This is definitely not normal. It is possible that something on your server is misbehaving and dumping "core" - usually this is accompanied by a server crash (assuming a *nix OS).

I am sure these file are not being created by the CMSMS itself unless there is a badly written module that is causing this (though I am not sure how).

You may want to check with your hosting provider to see if they are getting any error information in their logs from the webserver (usually apache) or PHP modules.

Can you tell us where these files are being created? Also is there anything you did or changed with the CMS before this started to happen?

Check your logs for the server for the times that the Core files were created. You should be able to pinpoint what is causing PHP to dump these Core files. Like it was said above, it could be some code from a module. Are you running any other applications along with CMSMS on the same root?

If you have more files in your root than you started with when you uploaded CMS Made Simple I would venture to say you've been hacked and some script kiddies is using your server for nefarious purposes, make sure you aren't running an older ver. of cmsms...
