Styles not applied to live site

Hi all,
I tried to learn my lesson from one of the mod's and search first, but unfortunately I still can't find what i'm looking for, and yet i'm certain it will have come up. Anyway, I apologise.
The styles I have defined in the stylesheets attached to my template show up in the styles list of the editor and they're applied to the text in the editor just fine, however, the style list itself isn't formatted (should it be?) and the styles don't show up on the live site, i.e. when I save my edits and view the site.
I'm a wee bit stumped.
