I'd like to apply this to the website I am working on right now, but I don't know anything about php.  Would you be willing to separate out JUST the part you added or changed and tell me where in the file to put it?  

course ,if I don't get a reply, sooner or later I will start tinkering and hopefully not break anything...

I upgraded to 12.1 via a server wipe (not a database wipe though). Anyway, I lost my neat little arrows. Does this same code work with 12.1 or do changes need to be made?

I think you will find it is because « and » might look like nice arrows to you, but mean something different in other languages, French for one I think....

have you thought of using images... at the bottom...hidden till :hover...

Is there any way to modify this so instead of the text it displays an image? I tried but I don't know much of anything about php and when I put a link to my image in it just broke it. 

I hadn't, thanks.  It doesn't look quite like I want it yet but I am pretty sure I have all the tools I need to adjust it til I like it
