Very informative site. Good use of features (especially calendar).
The design is not really my type, but I like the navigational concept. Also your XHTML does not validate - but I guess you have this on your list already. However, I think that the yellow on the first page doesn't play well with the light-blueish background... give it a little more contrast. I would be difficult to recognize for color-blind people.
I miss a RSS feed, I think that would be a feature you could implement.... oh I see.. it's there. You could make it auto-discovery on all pages though.
Pretty URLs would be nice... though I think the feature is slightly overrated.
I like the idea of the random event pictures in the upper right corner. I think it would work even better when taking a larger part... e.g. as the background of the full header or something like that.
Just some thoughts...
