[Solved] Database connection fails as of Jan 1.

Hi and happy new year to everyone,

Was wondering if anyone has seen the following problem as of the first of the year.
Everything was working just fine when I did a backup on Dec 31.

Code: Select all

Database Connection Failed
Error: Access denied for user 'saintjo2_admin'@'localhost' (using password: YES) (1045)
Function Performed: CONNECT
Host/DB: localhost/saintjo2_cmsms
Database Type: mysql
Have been running cmsms 1.2.3 reliably at bluehost.com for about a year now. Original cmsms install ran under PHP at 5.2.5, currently running under PHP 5.2.8.

I'm suspecting a mysql upgrade at the hoster or some sort of password encryption issue. I have not changed anything at the site other than content. Restoring home dir and dbase backups did not fix it.

Thanks for all suggestions.

This isn't a problem with CMS Made Simple

Contact your host.

Thanks calguy,

I have logged a ticket with the hoster and am awaiting reply. Their chat level support couldn't resolve the issue.

On a whim, I created a new user/pwd for the dbase. After updating config.php everything is back online!

Was it a coincidence that the dbase user/pwd seemed to expire on Dec 31?

"coincidences happen to maximize confusion" ???

Just want to throw my 2 cents in here.  It's not January 1, but today after working perfectly for almost two years, I got the same error message.  I checked and repaired the database and confirmed that the user information was correct.  I also double checked config.php.  Nada Nothing.  Did a search on the forum and came here.

Thank you, Drew.  Your solution also worked for me.  I have absolutely NO idea what went wrong but grateful that it's now fixed.  This was my business site and I didn't need problems!

If it IS an error with mySQL or the host server, I'd sure like to know what it is.
