Setting the length of news

I tryed to set the length of the news to very short.
I use :
{cms_module module="news" dateformat="d/m/y" number="5" category="general" length="15" moretext="lees bericht" }
in the template but this doesn't work.
Further the space between to news items is 0. One or two lines would be nice.
I'm a newby to CMSMS. Please help
