Filtering Forum selection

Is it possible (or could it be made possible) to filter forum groups when selecting 'show unread posts since last visit'? Some groups are of less interest and some groups I'd prefer to check only occasionally - very active groups sometimes bring lots of results and sometimes I can't see the wood for the trees....
