CMSMS and MetaWeblog API?

There are now some good standard APIs out there, that more and more software and web applications are starting to use. Now for example, MS Word 2007 lets you post blog entries directly, without having to first log in etc. Very simple for non experienced users (and convenient also for some more experienced ones I guess).
Word supports the standard MetaWeblog API, which also is supported by Wordpress, Drupal etc.
It would be a nice feature if CMSMS could implement this, and perhaps other, APIs (eg image gallery through pisca's API).
Has anyone else been thinking/working on this? Should this be done through a module, or is changes in the core needed?
Overall, I believe ways to integrate CMSMS with standard software could significantly improve the usability of this great CMS.
