News makerssbutton problem

Maybe I am being a bit thick with this but I can't seem to figure out why my RSS button for News doesn't seem to work.

I get the the XML button for my news to show up, but when I click on it in Firefox or IE it pops up a dialog asking if I want to Open or Save index.php.  I've read all the posts about news and rss.

I am using CMSMS 0.11.2

Server stuff:
PHP = 4.4.0, Apache 2.0 handler
Mysql = 4.0.25
Apache = 2.0.54
mod_perl/1.99_09
Perl/v5.8.0
mod_ssl/2.0.54
OpenSSL/0.9.7d DAV/2
mod_gzip/2.0.26.1a

I get the the XML button for my news to show up, but when I click on it in Firefox or IE it pops up a dialog asking if I want to Open or Save index.php.

The same happens at this site. I have tried feed burner also which does not see a feed at all.

Does anyone with any knowledge have a suggestion as to how to fix this?

Apparently it's got something to do with mime-types. The link is also meant to be auto-generated but I, too, can't get the new version to work.

In the old days (pre 0.10.x I believe) it would load the XML just fine in the browser or a news reader.

I've been reliably informed that the News module's help will be totally revised to contain more detailed information on how to achieve tasks such as this. Isn't that right, guys? ;)
