Upgrade Question 1.0.4 -> 1.4.1 *Newbie*

Our site www.jamesmorrison.com is running on version CMS Made Simple 1.0.4 "Lanai". It was set up about a year ago, by a contractor on our behalf.
The site, particularly the menus have NEVER displayed properly in Windows ie6.

My questions are as follows.

1) Can I upgrade from 1.0.4 to 1.4.1 without any intermediate upgrades?

2) Should I use the following cmsmadesimple-1.4.1-full.tar.gz

3) What problems "might" i expect if I do this?

4) Is there a chance that this upgrade might fix the ie6 display problem?

5) The site is hosted on unix servers, (not windows) should I expect any problems due to this?

or about 2 years ago  ::)

Sure if you don't have no-core modules (you can have problem with News because from 1.1 its templates are in DB and not in files).
In other case is better before upgrade in a intermediate release, ex: 1.1.4.1
My advice is: BACKUP site+DB and before try upgrade in a local/dev environment

Yes

dbmgreen wrote: 3) What problems "might" i expect if I do this?
depend of many factors

For me it's a probably an css problem (IE6 had many problem for this and others  :) )

I think it is better  ;)

I'm running 1.0.4 "Lanai" too, for my band site (http://www.BlackLightning.it). Never felt the need to upgrade so far, but after a while it's probably better..   ::)

My question is: what do you mean with "sure you can upgrade if you don't have no-core modules"?
In particular I noticed you mention "News", that's a problem because most of my site is news based. Should I follow a parcitular procedure?  ???

That's the list of my installed modules:
Album 0.8.2
CMSMailer 1.73.10
FCKeditorX 1.0.3
Guestbook 1.1.9
MenuManager 1.2
ModuleManager 1.1.3
News 2.2
NMS 1.0.0
nuSOAP 1.0.1
Search 1.1
ThemeManager 1.0.7

Thank you anyway for your patience and your help!  ;D

Core modules are tested for work with relative version.... other modules depend ex. you can to have problem with FCKeditorX (now there is TinyMCE) and Guestbook

For News module you must pay attention because:
- news templates, from CMSMS 1.1+, are in DB and not in file but in help module there is a note for loading in DB
- for news rss, from 1.5, you must use CGExtensions+CGFeedMaker
- from 1.5, substitute $entry->formatpostdate with $entry->postdate and drop dateformat param from news tag

Hello,

1.0.4 may be security holes free today but to be sure you should only expose the latest official supported version to the wild Internet. Today is 1.5.1. Upgrade and stay up-to-date.
