2 questions about Shop Made Simple

Post by dave.webb »

Hi all.

I'm in the process of using Shop Made Simple to set up a very basic 'shop' as part of an existing CMSMS site.  So far so good but I have hit a few problems and hope somebody can help me resolve them.

Firstly, How do I use a breadcrumb trail with this?  I have used the standard one but it doesn;t go any deeper than the shop root.  Is there a way around this?

Secondly, I would like more than one level of subcategories.  I want to have shop -> category -> sub-category, but when I do this it doesn't show up.  And when I add products to the sub-categories they just end up in the main category.

Any help or suggestions would be very welcome.

Many thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave,
I'm going to try and take a look at some of the issues you mentioned here - I can't promise dates though, I'm pretty busy in college.
Firstly, How do I use a breadcrumb trail with this?  I have used the standard one but it doesn;t go any deeper than the shop root.  Is there a way around this?
The CMSMS breadcrumbs won't work with the shop (I reckon!), we'll have to add that to ShopMadeSimple (SMS).
Secondly, I would like more than one level of subcategories.  I want to have shop -> category -> sub-category, but when I do this it doesn't show up.  And when I add products to the sub-categories they just end up in the main category.
I have never seen the SMS code, but from what you say here it sounds like its intended to work the way you say, but that 'feature' ain't working.

Alan,

Thanks for your reply.

On the first item I guess you're right, it's something that probably needs to be coded into SMS.  I just hoped there was a way around it, as at the moment any shop visitors have to either click back in their browser or click the products link to start the process again.

You could also be right about the second item, it may be a bug.  I just thought I may be doing something wrong.  I think I've unearthed quite a few bugs with SMS but it is still in beta so I can't really complain :)

If anyone has any workarounds for these I'd be glad to hear from you.

Thanks,
Dave

Hi Dave, stick any bugs you find in the tracker for the project - this would be a great help.

Thanks,
A

From dave.webb
on first question:
Breadcrumb in front end or back end?

on second question:
I would like more than one level of subcategories
This is in the latest version (0.1.6) not resolved for the front end. The back end however allows this situation. There was a at the moment that one was working a number of levels deep.
