[SOLVED] another 'The modules folder is not writable' issue

Hi again,

One of the sites i'm working says that the modules folder is not writable. I'm sure you know the error well, but here it is anyway...
The modules folder is not writable, if you would like to install modules by uploading an XML file you need to make the modules folder have full read/write/execute permissions (chmod 777). Safe mode may also be in effect
I have read through the forum, and done the following
  • checked permissions on the modules folder is set to 777
checked permissions on uploads folder is set to 777
checked that php isn't running in safe mode
    reinstalled cmsms
Now for whatever reason, this site is still throwing up the same error. So far I've been manually uploading modules for this site to the modules folder and this has been working well, but it seems that you can't install formbuilder this way.

phpinfo confirms that other sites i maintain are on the exact same server - and they work perfectly thanks to cmsms :)

Anyone got any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Can you use File manager? if so go to the last tab, Settings, and check the 'Enable advanced mode?' then you can go to the root and see how it thinks the permissions are set...

The form builder is available in the forge as XML and tar.gz...

In Extensions > Modules you can use the XML file...

The tar.gz is like a zip file you can use 7-zip to unpack it then FTP the folder to site...

good tip on the advanced mode in file manager! Although it confirmed that modules and uploads were set to 777.

But I d/led the tar.gs file, extracted with winrar and u/l  and that worked fine. I had previously been using a formbuilder from my own archive... possible this one is damaged.

Anyway, although the error is still apparent, I now have formbuilder installed thanks to d/ling a fresh module from CMSMS
