Question / Content Numbering Skips Numbers?

Hi folks,

I'm a content editor working in CMS Made Simple 1.1.3.1 "Apia". Sorry, I don't know more about the technical environment. We have a few hundred pages of content, and our hierarchy looks pretty good for the most part. However, for some reason, I've noticed something peculiar.

In some trees from our hierarchy, the content numbering skips numbers.

So, for example, when I look at Section 1.6 in the Content|Pages area, I have about 10 pages immediately underneath 1.6. However, the numbering for those 10 pages begins at 1.6.13 instead of 1.6.1. This seems peculiar, and it happens in several other sections. If I move 1.6.13 up one notch, it becomes 1.6.12. So, it looks something like this:

1. Main topic
1.1
1.2
1.3
1.4
1.5
1.6
  1.6.12
  1.6.13
  1.6.14

etc.

Obviously, one possible way to correct this issue would be to move all of the pages up one by one. But, in section 1.7, the first sub-page is 1.7.35! With the amount of content we have, it would require thousands upon thousands of clicks to get everything sorted again.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks!

Steve

Well, I didn't answer my question, but I found a reasonable workaround.

By creating a new top-level content page, and moving the content from the strangely behaving hierarchy to the new top-level content page, the problem resolved.

That is, by moving 1.6.16 to a new 1.7 page, it moved over as 1.7.1.

So, it took me a good hour, but I was able to clean everything up that way.

Still doesn't explain what happened in the first place, but there you are!
