An interesting article. I think CMSMS meets many of the criteria, should meet a few more in version 2.0, but lacks one or two features:
DATA FEEDS - At the moment only the News module has a feed (I think), and it's not very customisable. It would be useful to have feeds by category, Photo Album feeds, Cataloger feeds, etc; some of this could be taken care of using Microformats and related tools, but it would be nice if more work was done on native feeds.
RECENT AND EMERGING TECHNOLOGIES - One of the key issues I have with CMSMS is it's lack of tagging or multiple category assignment. Also, each module operates independently of the others when creating categories. I've mentioned before that it would be nice to have a central Categories module which all other modules could call upon; this way you only need to create a category once. Also, the mark-up in the modules could easily be changed to incorporate Microformats natively; if not by default, they could be offered as alternatives. And OpenID would fit naturally with the FEUsers module, wouldn't it? This would also help the Blogs and Comments modules.
I hope it doesn't look like I'm complaining; I think CMSMS is great in so many ways. I just think it could be better with not too much effort.
