image editor : white page and apache lockup

I've been using the 0.13 system on a ubuntu server with apache 2.0.54-5 with php 4.4.0-3.

After the 3rd image uploaded throught the image uploader, i wanted to insert the image on a page. The yellow button.

I have seen this screen  working once on this system but after that, the page remained empty. The time it worked, i tried to "change directory". I have never seen the pages inside the directory.

Other pages on the same webserver did not respond anymore either. After a "/etc/init.d/apache2 restart" all pages work fine again, until you push the button again.

If anyone can make cheese of this please help. There is no code of the white page, firefox says "about:blank".
I have already upgraded to 0.14 and 0.15-rc5 but with no changes.

This is REALLY strange.  I wouldn't even know where to start trying to debug it without being able to recreate it locally.  But it's not doing it for me...

I abandoned the test server and moved on to the live server. I suppose it's something with imagemagick or so. since apache dies we'll never know what.
