HTML Tags, search engines and website content.

Hi,

I have had a homepage before, created with Microsoft Frontpage and one created with another Webdesign package from Data Becker. Both had in common that it was not possible to edit content from any other location.

For this reason I installed CMS with which I have 2 websites running now, one for myself and one for my father in law who can edit pages himself or send me the text which I have to put online.

All well, works well, shows up nice. One question however. The other 2 older editors created pages online and as soon as a page was added within a day or 2 these pages did show up in search enginges without having to add keywords to the tags.

It seems to me that the CMS pages are not scanned by search engines automatically. For example, I added a page about satellite test transmission screens (in Dutch) which was not found for 2 weeks. After adding the keywords to the tags this page was found the next day.

Is there a way to change a setting to make the search engines look through all pages for content and keywords ? I have a "mess" page where I place tips for computer problems I run into and it does not make sense to add keywords to the tags after each subject that is added.

Thanks for the advice,

Kind regards,
Ben

Hi Ben,

do you use the mod-rewrite option in config.php or maybe pretty urls? Sometimes Google and other search-engines take more time to spider "messy" urls such as index.php?page=21 instead of index.php/about-us --- so maybe you should choose one of the above options.

Regards,
Nils

This is not a CMS Made Simple issue.... it's a general issue about SEO.

It depends. There are several issues with pretty-urls and CMS made simple, but not this one.

But that wasn't my idea.... To move this to the Lounge.

Time did do the trick. Most of the pages show up now, without pretty url set.

Thanks anyway !
