Horizontal Menu throwing liquid layout out of sync on sceen res. 800x600

Hello
I am using a standard liquid 3 column layout+ 2 header divs, with the horizonal menu being contained in one of the header divs. The width of the site is set at 95%.
This works fine on screen resolutions above 800x600 but on that resolution the cols do not show properly using the menu templates that are: {cms_module module='menumanager' template='cssmenu.tpl'} and
{cms_module module="bMenu" styleid="64"}
If I take the menu away completely, then the site works fine at the lower res.
It does seem as though the menu, which by the way does not fill all the available width in this div anyway (is this important?), deepens the depth of the div with the result that the left hand column goes above the other two.
I like the menu but not the problems it is causing. Probably due to my relative ignorance of course!
Thank you for any help you can give.
Martin
