Navigation problem

Can anyone tell me how I can use a top horizontal menu and also a left vertical menu without having the same items in the menu. My client wants something like this:

Across the top:
HOME  CONTACT US    DIRECTIONS    RESOURCES/LINKS    CALENDAR

But on the side would be completely different menu items.

Erosion & Sedimentation
  Overview
  Forms

Farm Preservation

Outreach

Publications

How can I use different menu items in a horizontal menu and a left vertical menu?

Presently I am using the Left simple navigation + 1 column and I added the GrassStains Horzontal menu to the Menu Module. Problem is that the top navigation is generated by the pages.

I hope I have explained this.  Please feel free to ask me further details. I just don't know how to proceed.

Thanks for any input you may have.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Isn't this a provided sample in a standard install ? "How CMSms works" -> "Default Templates Explained"...
Top simple nav + left subnav (+1 content colomn)
or CSS Top slightly modified ?
