Hi
Haven't downloaded cms made simple yet but was just wondering if someone could tell me if the download has a variety of templates to use, or must one design a template themself?

There is one default template/stylesheet included in the distribution, more are on the way, I bet if you contacted one of the other guys on here, they'd share theirs with you too, we're a friendly bunch.

Hi Overlander,

With the 0.11 release (which will be very soon) there will be a new set of templates included, that also are easily customizable to make your page look different from others that start out from the same template.  You can check out some of them here for now: www.oppnakanalenvaxjo.se/cmsms (there will also be templates with fluid width available)

I've made a zip file of them and attached to this post (actually with .txt at the end, so just remove that and unzip the file).

Here's how to use them:
1. Remove the file extension .txt

2. Unzip the files

3. For each stylesheet, create a new stylesheet in Layout/Stylesheets in the Admin Panel and copy and paste the code in the provided .css files (and give them the same name as the files).

4. For each template (.html), create a new template in Layout/Templates in the Admin Panel and copy and paste the code in the provided .html files (and give them the same name as the files).

5. Now you need to attach the right stylesheets to each template. Do this by clicking the css icon for each template and select the stylesheets to add, one by one, in the dropdown box.

Each template must have the following stylesheets attached:
  • Forms, Layout, Tools & Typography
  • One or two of Nav-Horizontal, Nav-Vertical, Default CSSMEnu Horizontal or CSSMenu Vertical, depending on the navigation used for each template.
  • One of the Layout-XXX stylesheets for each template

Overlander, I'd recommend you to install CMSMS and try it out! It's very easy to use, yet very flexible. For templates, you ccan use just about any web page out there and easily make a CMSMS template out of the html and css.

I'm on my way to work now, so please write back if there are any problems.

This is great stuff!
I even got the menu working again now!
Thanks for your effort.

Hi Daniel, these are indeed very nice templates and although I had some difficulties to understand all instructions, I managed it :-) Thanks very much!!

Maybe it's a good idea to make them downloadable in the Downloadssection (http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/templates_downloads.shtml) even if they are available in version 0.11 when it comes out.

Thanks for the templates Daniel.

I tried setting one up as suggested (Navtop + 2 col.htm) but can't locate nav bar.  I followed all five of the instructions above

Here is the url http://www.ozdocos.com/cmsms/index.php Can someone please tell me what I've done wrong?

I can't get the Navtop + 2 col.htm to work either. None of the menus shows on my screen and I think that I have tried all combinations.

Could somebody tell me (us) which stylesheet that must be be attached to Navtop-Submenuleft + 2col

Thanks :-)

I finally figured it out. I was missing the EllNav module

Great post Westis. Someone should make this a sticky before it disappears.

Thanks
Dave

These templates are a nice way to get started.
I installed the ´Navtop-Submenuleft + 2col´ template and it looks very nice.

One question. This template uses the EllNav module. The vertical menu items are subs from the horizontal menu items. If I put some subs under Home, they show at the beginning but those subs don´t show on the left when I go to an other vertical link.

Is it possible to have all the subs always in the left menu?

fastd and Mesmer,

These templates and stylesheets have been worked on further and are included in revised versions in today's 0.11 release.

Also, Calguy has released a Theme Manager that makes it very easy to import and export themes (templates + attached stylesheets). The Theme Manager requires 0.11 though, so I'd suggest you upgrade to 0.11 once it's released.

:-)
