What are breadcrumbs?

Can someone please explain to me what breadcrumbs are?

I have just installed CMS Made Simple and I can pretty much get my head round it, but I still have no idea what breadcrumbs are. I have searched the forum and read through any available literature I can find, but I still can't find something that explains it in layman's terms that I can understand.

Thanks in advance,

Kirsty

Breadcrumbs are a navigational technique displaying all visited pages leading from the home page to the currently viewed page. All pages are linked for easy backwards navigation. Typically placed near the top of a web page.

Example:  Home >> Services >> Auto-Repair >> Trucks >> Transmission Repair

Thanks, Lemkepf. Breadcrumbs are now added to the Glossary of Terms (which is still quite empty...): http://www.cmsmadesimple.org/terms.shtml
