Newsletter Made Simple Unsubscribe How Does This Actually Work?

I wish to find out how the unsubscribe function of NMS actually works.
Most companies who would use this system have an off-line database of users which they add to and each time they email a newsletters they would re-import that database of users which would include some users who may have unsubscribed. So can NMS deal with this situation so that the user who has unsubscribed not be sent the newsletter? If it cannot then please take this as a feature request.
Also the export users whenever I have clicked on this it doesn't work just goes to a screen which show the NMS title.
