Modules gone!

Something very strange has happened to my CMS MS site, www.matxainetxea.com. It was functional for several days, maybe a week, but now the Calendar and Album modules are gone.  If I try to reinstall them the admin panel tells me there are permission problems or that php is in 'safe mode'. Some permissions do appear to have been lost and I corrected them as directed by cms ms admin. (My hosting provider is iPowerWeb.com.) I restored some, and checked using phpinfo.php to see if php is in safe mode, but it is not.

I would simply reinstall the modules even though I see the folders are there, except that I don't want to delete the work I've done in them (especially Albums), and also I have a warning in Module Manager:
WARNING: Insufficient directory permissions to install modules. You may also be experiencing problems with PHP Safe mode. Please ensure that safe mode is disabled, and that file system permissions are sufficient.
Has anyone experienced something like this?  I suspect my ISP has done something, but would like some pointers on how to pursue this.  Thanks!

Has no one here heard of anything like this happening before? I am bumping this thread in the hopes of a response.

I don't want to go around resetting permissions without some plan. Is there a documented model of cms ms file and folder permissions settings?

Very easy, but you say nothing of CMSMS version and if you installed that modules with FTP (1) or ModuleManager (2)

With (1) you can try to enter via FTP with a good client and change folder permission of modules and that folders
With (2) search in forum a script for permission change

Thanks, Alby. Sorry I didn't make it clear that the website is using cms ms v1.2, and I have already tried resetting module folder permissions with the filezilla ftp program, but that didn't fix the problem.  Now I am off in search of a script to reset permissions.

Later... I haven't yet found a script, but I found some documentation and so far permissions appear to be set correctly.

Later... realized that since i don't have SSH access at iPowerweb, I would not be able to run a shell script.

I will keeping poking away at this problem when i have a few minutes, but would really appreciate a link to comprehensive permissions documentation if it exists.

Well, even completely open (777) permissions for the modules folder and all files and folders below did not solve the problem. So i took a chance and reinstalled the Calendar and Album modules.  Fortunately, it appears that nothing was lost. However, I am not too comfortable with the modules so open. I guess i can try 755 for everything. If it breaks, I should be able to go back.
