System for cofunding CMSMS development

After participating in this thread about implementing recurring events feature for Calendar, I really think, that we need some system for cofunding. I don't really know if this is right term for it, I mean system in which people can easily contribute money for common need and the choose someone, who will implement it.

This need is felt also by people who founded Cofundos.org, system for cofunding. I think, that it is interesting one for CMSMS, because it is good accessible from other sites by means of feeds and other integration.

What do you think about it? I'd like to hear,

streever,

I like the idea. Looking from a developer point of view it takes time to define/develop/technical test/document. Especially when a project is defined, the developer (I would :D) likes to get the assurance that the chosen bid get paid in the end. As I read from the about page on cofundos.org, I see that the bidders donate the money in the end. So all is up to good faith?
I would start in smaller blocks to see if the good faith works.

I think this can be useful also for people from this thread: http://forum.cmsmadesimple.org/index.ph ... 018.0.html.

I think entire open source development is at least partly based on good faith. The developers must have good faith, that project can become profit (though not neccesarily financial) for them in longer term. And users hve good faith that developers will continue to make open source product better.

Hi all!

Well, this is something I've been watching for a while ... 'cofunding'.

I'm interesting is opening this discussion up a bit, so here's my first throw in :)

I can't help but notice that cmsms is jumping straight in here without much thought to the future consequences. Before I get blasted ... I have no problem with people making a living from developing or design, or whatever ... I do it myself so onward!

The difficulty I see is that, a culture of 'fund me or I won't do something' could emerge in the community, and a situation of stagnancy may arise whereby developers don't feel they should do something without being paid for their efforts. Also, it is likely that the best developers are the ones who will be paid to develop and this could remove them from the current contirbutions and maintenance they contribute.

I'm just wondering is cmsms as a project a little young to be able to survive this direction?

Anyway, one way or another, cmsms is a terrific system and thanks to all who have developed it, and continue to, develop and support it and the user community!!
