Cannot load news module

I loaded the wrong module for news 2.6. It did not instal, but sits in the Modules page with no Uninstal Link

Now when I try and load (news 2.3.0.1) , and tick the overwrite existing modules box I get this error

"Installing this module would result in a downgrade. Operation aborted (Troubleshooting)"

Could someone tell me how to get rid of the original mistake, please.

Lost

I solved this by removing the news directory via FTP
Now I cannot reinstall. I have uploaded with the module page from xml. But when I go to install, I get this error
Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ';' in /home/scotsch1/public_html/modules/News/method.install.php on line 49

line 49 appears to be
$this->CreatePermission('Approve News', 'Approve News For Frontend Display';

Anyone any ideas?  TIA Andrew

I suggest to upload every module via ftp/sftp so you will have no permission problems ...

Great suggestion, thankyou.  I took the module from my own backup instead of off the download site and it installed fine.
