Hello,

here are my thoughts to make the installation even easier:

1. Tell the people which files and folders must have certain rights (chmod)
2. give the people a link pointing to a tutorial what chmod is and how to change it (and why it is possible, that the chmod can be differant on some hosters)
3. i would always set up the example templates
4. a "next" link during all 5 steps also on the top of the page
5. step 4: message that the process was alright
6. step 5: the "modules button" is not good and I would make the links to the "cms site" and the "admin panel" more clear
7. a note at step 5 to delete the install folder (even if it is writen in the admin afterwards)
8. create the .htaccess file automatically (with data)

Little improvements with a hugh impact

Why? The only reason I know of (and so I do not use it)  is that if you install modules via XML they get CHOWNed by the web user, which makes it very awkward to modify them.

If you don't modify modules, it should be ok?

No. On many systems the .htaccess isn't displayed by an ftp client. If you do not want to  use mod_rewrite (but use the internal nice URL system) you may be wondering why your site performs strange ...

Additionally, there may be no mod_rewrite at all.

I have installed the CMS multiple times and in the beginning it might help but if you know what you want (or that you don’t want default templates/pages set up) deleting all the examples becomes really annoying. By letting users choose whether or not to install sample content the CMS is already as user friendly as it can get.

Of what use would be such a link? You can’t go on before you haven’t completed a step. And if a step is completed, why should it be necessary to click a “next” link when it could go on right away? There’s a reason why it says “one step at a time”.
