My images don't show, why? [solved]

Just a few days ago I installed CMSms, my first experience with a CMS, so I'm still trying to familiarize myself with how things are done.
Fortunately I'm familiar enough with Stylesheets. I uploaded my image both via the CMS interface and via FTP, did update the CSS file (the URL & the image size, and the div height) to use that image (instead of the CMSms logo), but it's not showing it. Why would that be?

Thanks in advance,

JDL

JDL,

did you put it in the correct folder with the right permissions. The folder where the CSS starts to look is \uploads. So you should put it in a structure below that folder and change the CSS correspondingly. Also permissions have to make sure that the image is to be opened by others as well.

Do you have a link to see? And can you show the header-calling in the stylesheet?

Thanks so much for helping RK :)
I just moved the image files to the uploads/images dir. Now, where exactly do I go for setting the Permissions?
Here's the Home page
&
Here's the piece of code I updated:

/*** header ***
we will hide text and replace it with a image
we need to assign a height for it so that the image wont cut off
*/
div#header {
height: 97;    /* adjust according your image size */
background: #88593b;
}

div#header h1 a {
/* you can set your own image here */
  background: #88593b url(images/basebllcpn_banner.png) no-repeat 0 95px;
  display: block;
  height: 95px;            /* adjust according your image size */
  text-indent: -999em;  /* this hides the text */
  text-decoration:none; /* old firefox would have shown underline for the link, this explicitly hides it */
}

& Here's the rest of the CSS code:

Code: Select all

div#header h1 a {
/* you can set your own image here */
  background: #88593b url(images/basebllcpn_banner.png) no-repeat 0 95px;
  display: block;
  height: 95px;            /* adjust according your image size */
  text-indent: -999em;  /* this hides the text */
  text-decoration:none; /* old firefox would have shown underline for the link, this explicitly hides it */
}

try putting: background: #88593b url(../images/basebllcpn_banner.png) no-repeat 0 95px;
this should resolve your problem if you placed the image in image directory in root of your website, set permissions on image forlder to 755.

Change:

background: #88593b url(images/basebllcpn_banner.png) no-repeat 0 95px;

to

background: #88593b url(uploads/images/basebllcpn_banner.png) no-repeat 0 95px;

You seem to have 2 stylesheets attached to your template...

This is what you need... the no-repeat 0 95px ,,,this is pushing it below the header, it means 95px down/margin top...

div#header {
height: 97px;    /* adjust according your image size */
background: #88593b;
}

div#header h1 a {
/* you can set your own image here */
  background: #88593b url(uploads/images/basebllcpn_banner.png) no-repeat 0 0;
  display: block;
  height: 95px;            /* adjust according your image size */
  text-indent: -999em;  /* this hides the text */
  text-decoration:none; /* old firefox would have shown underline for the link, this explicitly hides it */
}

Excellent!
Thank you so much guys! :)

This is what worked:
1. Correcting path to: uploads/images/
2. Removing the Margin value: 95px

Now I need to push down the menu and the search box apparently.

This is what I have different from the previous code:

div#header {
height: 120;    /* adjust according your image size */
background: #88593b;
}

div#header h1 a {
/* you can set your own image here */
  background: #88593b url(uploads/images/basebllcpn_banner.png) no-repeat 0 0;
  display: block;
  height: 120;            /* adjust according your image size */
  text-indent: -999em;  /* this hides the text */
  text-decoration:none; /* old firefox would have shown underline for the link, this explicitly hides it */
}

Any help with doing this is greatly appreciated too :)

I take it you copied Layout: Top menu + 2 columns stylesheet to make a new one...

You need to unattach it from your template to get the new CS to work better...

In your new CSS you need to add px to your margin/padding/height/width calls...

div#header {
  height: 120px;    /* adjust according your image size */
  background: #88593b;
}

div#header h1 a {
/* you can set your own image here */
  background: #88593b url(uploads/images/basebllcpn_banner.png) no-repeat 0 0;
  display: block;
  height: 120px;            /* adjust according your image size */
  text-indent: -999em;  /* this hides the text */
  text-decoration:none; /* old firefox would have shown underline for the link, this explicitly hides it */
}

Wow, you have a pretty good eye for detail Mark :)
It's way better now!

Now, how do I do to detach the stylesheet you mentioned?
Is it something I need to do manually in the code of the Template?
Or do I use the CMS GUI?

Go to Layout > Templates click the CSS to the right, in the list of attached CSS click the trash can of the one you don't want...

Alright, it's done, Mark :)
I got rid of that redundant stylesheet.

Thanks a lot for your help again :)

Now I have other questions but for that I'll create a new post (if I don't find my answer with Search first).
