funny language in demo

Hi again,
Ok I do things backwards here. I have downloaded and installed for probably the third time. Now I am afraid to wreck my clients existing site due to my newbieness so now I want to play more on the demo site while learning and it seems that the language is always foreign to me and prevents me from being able to use the demo.
What is this all about?
