are there any security issues to be concerned about with regards to 1.0.8? i have a couple sites with some custom coding in place that i don't really care to upgrade at this time considering everything would have to be done again in about four months (for 2.0).

If you "don't really care", you should at least backup and set up URL filtering (search "filter" within the last two weeks).
But it is your risk so your decision.
