Not sure if you are across this, however I ran an upgrade over the existing site last night, and have the following error:

In order to upgrade properly, upgrade needs to have write access to your config.php file. This is so any extra settings that have been introduced in this version can be set to their defaults.
Upgrading config.php...[done]
Cleaning cache dirs...[done]
Upgrading News module from 1.5 to 2.3...deprecated

I have goggled this, however have not found anyone with a similar issue…

from what version did you upgrade, and did you chmod your config.php to have write access before running the upgrade?

I initially didnt do this, however I have re upgraded the website, with the permissions setup correctly (chmod: 666) on the config.php file. Any other ideas? Defauly permissions for config.php were set to 777.

I dont really understand your story. Maybe you could explain a little more, what did you do, what went wrong and what is the system your running on.

btw, if you arent upgrading your website, config.php should be chmodded to 444, not 777.

I would FTP to the site and take out the News module and once the site was up and running try putting it back in and installing it, you should have it in your unzipped folder on your comp....

if you go to his site and type install/upgrade.php you will see it freezes on the last line...
