Limiting access to albums

Hello,
I am slowly integrating the frontend users function to my little website, mainly in order to protect some of the content. The idea is to have :
a) some public unrestricted content
b) some absolutely private. For those users, the logins are created manually.
c) I also would like to have the self-registration option in order to let users have access to some extra content that is not immediadely visible to anonymous visitors, just to challenge their curiosity
How can I limit the access to a certain page to group b) or c) ? I am sure there is simple way, but I just cannot figure out how...
